Mahindra Tractors is a portfolio company of Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, a global conglomerate headquartered in Mumbai, India. Mahindra Tractors has been recognized as the world's largest tractor manufacturer (by volume) since 2010.
Today Mahindra Tractors operates in 10 countries, with core markets including India, China, North America and Australia. Mahindra is known for its strong product offering in the compact and subcompact tractor categories.
Today Mahindra USA employs over 8,600 Americans, and its tractors are sold at over 790 dealerships across the United States. Mahindra is the #3 tractor manufacturer in North America by market share as defined by the Association of Equipment Manufacturers.
Mahindra USA makes a large number of its tractors sold in North America at its five United States assembly plants in Houston, Texas; Marysville, California; Chattanooga, Tennessee; Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania; and Lyons, Kansas.
Mahindra is focused on expanding its manufacturing presence in North America — since 2010 it opened the Bloomsburg and Lyons plants, and Mahindra leadership has indicated it looks to continue growing its North American footprint over the next five years by doubling its investment and employment.
Mahindra started its operations in the United States in 1988 when it exported 143 tractors from India to sell in the US market. Between 1988 and 1994, Rip Evans led the expansion of Mahindra's efforts in the US market. In 1994 Mahindra formed Mahindra USA and established its official headquarters in Tomball, Texas.
In 2015 Mahindra launched its Utility Vehicle (UTV) line in the North American market. Rip Evans credits Mahindra's strong growth recently to the introduction of the UTV line. He said that many new dealer partners took interest in the Mahindra line following the expansion into the powersports market.
Today Mahindra sells 11 tractor models in North America ranging from 19.4 to 120 horsepower. Mahindra focuses on the compact and subcompact tractor segments. Over time the Company has gradually increased the horsepower range of its tractors sold in the United States.
